Columbus is home to the Official Cat of the Millennium. The
company that makes M&M's bestowed this honor on us.
The Official Cat of the Millennium is Courtney, a plump and regal-looking
9-year-old with expressive green eyes. She weighs 20 pounds, eats Girl Scout
cookies (thin mints) and takes a good picture.
For the contest, her owner, Cinnamon Sakich of Hilliard, photographed Courtney
in a pose highlighting the cat's potbelly. Then she penned 50 words on how
Courtney's acceptance of Sakich's other cat and her dog is an example of the
kind of tolerance we're all going to have to exercise in the global village of
the next millennium.
A good photo and a statement of global concern- if it works for Miss America
contestants, it will work for a cat. Courtney was a shoo-in.
Sakich didn't get much out of this contest. She won a t-shirt, M&M's, a
certificate and a right to enter a drawing for a free trip to the MTV Awards in
New York. But fame is it's own reward.
